42 communities and 19 school districts dedicated to reducing aircraft noise in the communities around O’Hare International Airport since 1996.


On August 18, an FAA spokesperson briefed Technical Committee on the FAA’s O’Hare Modernization Program (OMP) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) Re-evaluation of Interim Conditions. Members also learned that 2,230 citizens attended the four FAA public workshops which were held in Niles, Chicago, Bensenville and Elk Grove Village from August 10 to August 13.

The workshops covered the history of O’Hare’s modernization program, defined key terms, gave an explanation of the Re-Evaluation, Re-Evaluation topics, a history of landings and takeoffs, surface transportation issues, air quality issues, climate, the interim condition airfield layout, interim condition arrival and departure runway use, interim condition model flight tracks, interim condition noise exposure contours and cumulative impacts.
