The Office of Management and Budget has approved funding for the FAA’s Neighborhood Environmental Survey to determine the viability of the Day-Night Average Sound Level (DNL) 65 dB noise metric. In 2008, ONCC requested that the FAA initiate research to determine the appropriateness of the continued use of DNL 65 dB metric as the standard for sound insulation eligibility. The Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) has agreed to hold four meetings this summer for public comment regarding the O’Hare Draft EIS Re-Evaluation. ONCC members urged the agency to increase the proposed two 12-hour meetings to four meetings. Meeting locations and times are still pending.
The agency will also report the re-evaluation findings to ONCC members. A re-evaluation was necessary due to the resequencing of the OMP runways. The re-evaluation will be completed by the opening of Runway 10R/28L on October 15, 2015.

The ONCC 2014 Annual Report, released during the agency's March 13 annual meeting, includes a two-page map of 41 current and future O'Hare noise monitor locations. Other report highlights include environmental impact issues at the airport, quieter aircraft fleets, noise complaints and sound insulation projects. read more

Mount Prospect Mayor Arlene A. Juracek, unanimously elected ONCC chairman at the agency's annual meeting March 13, pledged to remain unbaised when considering options for aircraft noise mitigation. Juracek follows former Arlington Heights Mayor Arlene J. Mulder who served as chairman for 18 years. Niles Village Attorney Joseph Annunzio was elected vice chairman and former Norridge Clerk Judith Dunne Barnardi continues as treasurer. read more
