juracek proclamationIncoming ONCC Chair Joe Annunzio and presents outgoing Chair Arlene Juracek with a proclamation honoring her service

Mount Prospect Mayor and ONCC Chair Arlene A. Juracek was honored by commission members at the May 3 Executive Committee and May 7 Annual Meeting. At the Executive Committee meeting earlier in the week, incoming Chair Joe Annunzio presented Juracek with a proclamation, thanking her for “her integrity, her honesty, and her clear vision to make the O’Hare Noise Compatibility Commission a change agent to reduce aircraft noise in our communities.”

Juracek had served as Chair of the ONCC since 2015. She came to the O’Hare Noise Compatibility Commission with a vision and a plan to empower the commission to achieve that goal.

Laying out a plan to build consensus among community organizations and elected officials, she invited aviation experts to ONCC meetings to educate members and citizens on the latest technologies and to better understand the constraints of airport operations.

During her term, she initiated an ad hoc Fly Quiet Committee to develop an Interim Fly Quiet Program, the first nighttime runway rotation program of its kind in the country.

Her leadership did not go unnoticed. She received the prestigious Walt Gilfillan Award in 2019 and was recognized for her valuable achievements and contributions to abate aircraft noise within communities. And under her watch, the FAA recognized the ONCC as “a model community-based advocacy program and a voice for its member communities and an exceptional example for other cities to follow.”

Juracek was also honored by the Chicago Department of Aviation, stating “As Chair for over six years, she continued to grow the ONCC to be one of the most respected noise mitigation commissions and a model for other such groups worldwide.”

Congressman Mike Quigley (5th Congressional District) stated: Representing a constituency of over 1.3 million residents from 43 diverse communities as Executive Director of the O’Hare Noise Compatibility Commission since 2015, Mayor Arlene Juracek has guided ONCC through the O’Hare Modernization Program, multiple iterations of Fly Quiet rotations, and many millions of dollars in residential sound insulation programming. On behalf of Illinois’ 5th Congressional District, I wish Mayor Juracek a long, well-deserved, — and quiet —retirement.”

Best Wishes Mayor Juracek on your next chapter!
