ONCC Technical Committee Chair Catherine Dunlap participated in a months long planning committee to develop a workshop for anti noise groups, including airport/community roundtables, on ways to improve the FAA’s community engagement for Precision Based Navigation (PBN). Some 15 community groups submitted comments which were discussed at the U.C. Davis Aviation Noise and Emissions Symposium which was held from March 3-5 in Florida.

Committee Chair Joseph Annunzio called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. Ms. Catherine Dunlap moved to approve the February 19, 2019 meeting minutes. Mr. Dennis Ryan seconded the motion. The minutes were approved by a unanimous voice vote.

T5Groundbreaking 400 2O’Hare Noise Compatibility Commission members, Joseph Annunzio, Catherine Dunlap, Dennis Ryan and Executive Director Jeanette Camacho joined Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Chicago Department of Aviation Commissioner Jaimee L. Rhee and airline officials on March 20, 2019 at O’Hare International Airport for a groundbreaking on the first phase of a $1.2 billion expansion of Terminal 5.

By 2021, the expansion of 25-year-old Terminal 5 will increase total building area by approximately 350,000 square feet, making way for new passenger amenities, airline lounges, concessions spaces and the capacity to serve more travelers more comfortably.

The ONCC Technical Committee met on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Mount Prospect Village Hall.

Committee Chair Catherine Dunlap thanked the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the informative and thorough Interim Fly Quiet Community Workshop that the agency held at four different locations around O’Hare International Airport during the first week in February .

Interim Fly Quiet Update
FAA Environmental Specialist Amy Hanson thanked the ONCC for participating in the Interim Fly Quiet Workshop and for being readily available to answer questions from the public. She said the FAA is in the process of categorizing comments and did not have an exact date when the final report would be available.

The ONCC Residential Committee met at the Norridge Village Hall on March 13, 2019. 

Phase 17 Update
CDA staff reviewed the Phase 17 status report. The Historic Homes program is expected to be advertised for bids in Q2 of 2019 with the bid opening in Q3 2019. Status update letter was sent in February to 132 homes anticipated to receive the sound insulation to inform them of these dates.
